Michael Coffey

Fresh from OR Books comes Beckett’s Children: A Literary Memoir from the pen of long-standing Beckettian Michael Coffey. Described as ‘a lyrical blend of personal memoir, father-son dialogue, and literary investigation’ the book ‘probes the works of Irish writer Samuel Beckett and American poet Susan Howe’ searching for traces of various connections, including the their long-rumoured but always-denied status as father and daughter. Coffey uses this starting-point to concoct ‘a highly original appreciation of her work while also providing a fascinating focus on the dozens of unattended children who wander through Beckett’s oeuvre’. Coffey’s research provides a backdrop against which he interrogates his own status as an adoptee while also musing on his intricate relationship with his own son.

Beckett’s Children aims to ‘provid[e] a revelatory perspective on both American poetics and the vibrant world of Beckett studies’.
