Walter Asmus

The Beckett International Foundation has just announced that the 35th annual BIF Seminar will take place at the Minghella Studios, the University of Reading, on 1 November 2025.

Celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Beckett’s production of Warten auf Godot at the Schiller-Theater in Berlin in 1975, Walter Asmus, who assisted Beckett on this production, will join the conference for a public interview.

The full lineup is as follows:

Ros Maprayil (University of Reading): ‘“All my life I’ve crawled about in the mud! And you talk to me about scenery”: Reflecting on landscapes, textures and interconnection in Waiting for Godot in performance’

Mark Taylor-Batty (University of Leeds): ‘Blin’s perspectives on Beckett and Godot

Trish McTighe (Queen’s University Belfast) and Kathryn White (Ulster University): ‘Communities of Godot: Making and Remaking Place at the Happy Days Enniskillen International Beckett Festival’

Walter Asmus in conversation with Matthew McFrederick (University of Reading), followed by audience Q&A.

We are also pleased to announce that Daniela Caselli and Hannah Simpson will present their edition of Ruby Cohn’s Glancing at Dramatists’ Dialogue; from Shakespeare to Suzan-Lori Parks, and that there will be a book launch of Matthew McFrederick’s recent publication Staging Beckett in London.

Entry includes lunch and refreshments. Full details and online registration here

  1. I would like to attend the 35th annual seminar to celebrate the 50th anniversary on line. I have attempted to register for this following the link at the end of your email but that seems only to provide in person attendance to the meeting in Reading which I’m sadly not well enough to attend.

    With best wishes – Liz
