Luz María Sánchez Cardona

A recent publication in the field of Beckett Studies provides us with more rich and thoughtful work from academic and practicing artist, Luz María Sánchez Cardona. A former board member of the Samuel Beckett Society, Luz has devoted much of her scholarly work on Beckett to creatively exploring themes of technology and sound in his work.

Her latest book (in Spanish) Objeto • Beckett • Sonoro, from Mexican publisher Libros Juan Pablos Editor, offers a review of Beckett’s radio work, pieces ‘conceived for listening’ as she describes them. Her aim, she writes, ‘is to recover an audible Beckett’ by providing a context for the works through setting them in the broader sonic environment of the contemporary avant-garde composers of the BBC Radiophonic Workshop and the concrete music movement, and also the work of Pierre Schaeffer and Club d’ Essay at France’s RTF.
