The Samuel Beckett Society is an international organization of scholars, students, directors, actors and others who share an interest in the work of Samuel Beckett. Growing from the vision of a small group of scholars led by S.E. Gontarski and Calvin Israel who gathered at the MLA convention in Chicago in 1977, the society has blossomed over the years to become an international network of professional and amateur enthusiasts spread across the globe. Its current Honorary Trustees are Edward Beckett, J. M. Coetzee, Lois More Overbeck, Walter Asmus and James Knowlson, OBE.

The Samuel Beckett Society is a wholly voluntary organization dependent on its membership to administer and fund its work. This includes assisting early career scholars with their development by the awarding of travel bursaries to the annual conference, as well as maintaining The Beckett Circle and social media presence.
