A hybrid event organised by the Carl Gustav Jung Institute of San Francisco has just been announced and should be of interest to those interested in the area of Beckett and psychoanalysis and particularly his engagement with Jung and his ideas. As is well known, Beckett attended one evening of Jung’s ‘Tavistock Lectures’ in London in 1935 in the company of Wilfrid Bion. Here, Beckett writes, he heard Jung speak of a young girl ‘who had never been born entirely’, a moment which he would return to throughout his working life.
This hybrid event will consist of a two-hour talk and discussion from a Jungian perspective about Beckett’s psychoanalysis, neurosis, and creative healing process. This work is part of the foundation for the play, Samuel Beckett Unborn, which has been written by Rick Borutta, who will also host the session.
The event takes place on Sunday 22 March at 2PM [PDT]. It is free to all, both in person and on zoom, but registration is essential. Full event details and registration at this link
