Matthew McFrederick

The publication has been announced by Bloomsbury of the monograph Staging Beckett in London. Authored by Matthew McFrederick, Lecturer in Theatre at the University of Reading and Co-Director of the Beckett International Foundation, it completes the Staging Beckett series which also includes …in Great Britain, and …in Ireland and Northern Ireland which were edited by Trish McTighe and David Tucker.

Arguing that ‘although Dublin and Paris hold obvious connections with Beckett’s life, London is the city that has proved the most consistent home for his drama, the origin for many of his major collaborations and where his legacy continues to flourish today.’ The book ‘traces London’s performance histories through original findings in international archives, interviews with key practitioners and framing the performances in their historical and cultural contexts, this history offers new readings and insights into productions of Beckett’s plays in London’.

The book is wholly open access and is therefore free to download here.
