As part of this year’s annual conference Beckett’s Relationships to be held at the University of Edinburgh in June, a special advanced screening of the award-winning documentary Earl. has been organised to which attendees are invited.

Directed by Ty Kim, the film details the remarkable story of internationally renowned composer Earl Kim who was born into poverty in California, served in the US airforce in the second world war in which he witnessed the immediate aftermath of the bombing of Nagasaki, and subsequently embarked on a career of musical composition and teaching in the company of some of the discipline’s foremost names of the twentieth century. He befriended Beckett in Paris and undertook to provide various musical settings for the author’s texts.

The screning will take place on Wednesday 4 June at 17:30 at 50 George Square, The University of Edinburgh, and will be followed by a Q&A with director Ty Kim in conversation with Patrick Bixby, as well as a reception. Tickets are free but limited and booking is essential through this link.
