Gary Oldman

The attraction of high-profile actors to the work of Samuel Beckett continues unabated with the announcement that award-winning English screen actor Gary Oldman is to play the title role in Krapp’s Last Tape at the York Theatre Royal next year. Oldman’s CV consists of a long and diverse list of screen appearances, from his Oscar-winning portrayal of Winston Churchill in Darkest Hour (2018) and Police commisioner Gordon in Batman: The Dark Knight Rises (2012) to his earlier roles as Sid Vicious in Sid and Nancy (1986) and Joe Orton in Prick Up Your Ears (1987). Probably best-known at present for his role in the TV series Slow Horses, he made his screen breakthrough in the British TV films Meantime (1986) and The Firm (1989). Oldman also had a hugely successful career on the London stage in the 1980s and was particularly associated with Royal Court Theatre productions of Edward Bond at the time.

Krapp’s Last Tape will run from 14 April to 17 May 2025. Full details here.
