The latest seminars in the online series Beckett and Japan will take place in the coming weeks.
On Saturday 13 May, Seminar 4 features Euske Oiwa addressing the theme ‘Facing the Time: Beckett’s Theatricality and Installation Art’, and Kumiko Kiuchi of the Tokyo Institute of Technology, Japan reviewing ‘Thirty Years: Reception of Samuel Beckett’s prose work in Japan from the 1990s’. On Saturday 3 June, the renowned actor Sennojo Shigeyama will be in conversation with Yoshiko Takebe on the subject of ‘Revitalizing Beckett in the New Era of Japan’.
Each of the seminars is conducted through MS teams and is open to the public but booking is essential at the following page.
The series is an international collaborative event and is organized by Mariko Hori Tanaka (Aoyama Gakuin University, Tokyo), Michiko Tsushima (University of Tsukuba), Kumiko Kiuchi (Tokyo Institute of Technology), Yoshiko Takebe (Shujitsu University), and Trish McTighe (Queen’s University Belfast).

I’ve ‘attended’ with pleasure the May 13th seminar, to which I signed up earlier this month, but I can’t work out how to sign up for the June 3rd seminar listed here. Using the ‘booking is essential’ link I merely get to a page saying the seminar has finished, ie the May 13th one.
